DETAIL AWARD 2018

Projections of Award-Winning-Architecture

The prize-giving ceremony for the Detail Award 2018 on 16 November in Munich was accompanied by an impressive exhibition concept. Projected onto horizontal areas, the five prizewinning projects were presented by their designers in dialogue with guided visitor groups. The winners had travelled to Munich from Chile, Spain, Denmark and Great Britain especially in order to report on the backgrounds, design concepts, construction methods and planning details of their first-placed buildings and to receive the accolades. Shrouded in atmospheric darkness, the “Lothringer 13” art gallery provided an adequate platform for this focused type of imparting architectural impressions. Subsequently, Kjetil Trædal Thorsen, Founding Partner of Snøhetta and Chairman of the DETAIL Award 2018 Jury, substantiated the choice of the prizewinners in a passionate statement. Each of the buildings highlighted in its own way what a difference magnificent architecture and technical engineering can make. In his speech, Gunther Adler, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community, also emphasized his high esteem for the Detail Award. As representative of the main sponsor, BAU 2019, Dr. Reinhard Pfeiffer expressed his respect for the quality of all submitted contributions. In January, the prizewinners will travel to Munich again in order to present the winning projects publicly within the framework of the Detail Forum at BAU.
